If Someone is Hurting You

  • Understand that you are not responsible for your partner's abusive behavior.
  • Understand that the violence almost always gets worse, even if there are "good times" in between, and it rarely ever stops on its own.
  • Talk to someone who will believe you.
  • Develop a safety plan for leaving the abusive relationship.
  • Call 911 in an emergency. You have the same rights to protection from violence as everyone else in Rhode Island.
  • Call Sojourner House at 401.658.4334 (24 hrs/day) for support, advocacy, or help in obtaining a restraining order (or visit "Court Advocacy" in the "Services" section of this website.)
