Committed to Responsible Growth

Everyday we receive requests for assistance from people in abusive relationships who have nowhere else to turn.  Thanks to our Sustainers’ Circle members, we are able to offer them and their children access to consistent support groups, emergency shelter, transitional housing, advocacy, emotional support, counseling, and referrals to over 50 community partners providing additional assistance. The Sustainers’ Circle allows us to expand our programs and staff support beyond limited federal and community grant programs.

Last year we assisted more than 3,000 new clients, and we continue to see increased need for our services. Our Sustainers’ Circle makes our work to end domestic and sexual violence possible, and gives new hope to people who need a fresh start in life. The Sustainers’ Circle provides essential financial support to match grants we receive. The Sustainers’ Circle signifies investments that Sojourner House can rely on year to year, to ensure we can meet the needs of all who come to us.

We are thrilled to report that we have had success in securing federal grants.  In 2019 we must match them and are hopeful our Sustainers’ Circle will help to do that.  By 2020 we will be a statewide agency with a $3 Million annual budget serving more clients and communities than ever before. Your support will help to make that possible by fulfilling a matching requirement for a new $500,000 federal housing grant.

Who May Join the Sustainers’ Circle?

The Sustainers’ Circle is for individuals, foundations and companies that support healthy relationships by ensuring Sojourner House can fulfill its mission to provide culturally sensitive support, advocacy, and education for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence across Rhode Island.

The Circle comprises supporters providing us unrestricted funds for long term sustainability. Sustainers’ Circle members may also invite others to join and may provide advice as we seek additional financial support to meet our growth challenge.

What are the goals of the Sustainers’ Circle?

Our goal is to identify 25% of our annual budget through philanthropic dollars via partnerships with community oriented companies, foundations and major donors.

In order to reach our annual philanthropic goals we need a mix of donors ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 annually. Members of the Sustainers’ Circle commit to invest over $10,000 annually, and as they grow in their knowledge of Sojourner House’s work, they will consider an increase to their giving year to year. These funds help us continue to leverage additional year over year federal and state grants, foundation grants and expand our program reach.

What should I expect if I join the Sustainers’ Circle?

Members of the Sustainers Circle have a deep understanding of the wide range of services Sojourner House provides the community and our clients. We desire to work with our Sustainers to make new connections within our community, to leverage our partnerships to better serve our clients and to share information about ways to expand our impact. The Sustainers’ Circle includes:

  • Periodic briefings and breakfasts with Sojourner House staff on the programs, challenges and opportunities the agency faces.

  • Public recognition and tables (if desired) at our signature events: the Masquerade Ball each Fall and the SoJo MoJoe Breakfast each Spring.

  • Public recognition (if desired) on our website as a Sustainers’ Circle member.
